Yogiraj Shri Kalyan Swami’s Savayi: The Divine Power of Shri Ram Nam  

Introduction

Yogiraj Shri Kalyan Swami was the chief and most beloved disciple of Samarth Ramdas Swami. From a young age of 8–10 years until he settled in Domgaon, he lived closely in the holy company of his Guru. Naturally, his personality and spiritual consciousness were completely shaped by Samarth Ramdas Swami.

Like his Guru, Shri Kalyan Swami composed rich spiritual literature—including stray stanzas, four-line verses (ovya), devotional songs, aarti, and Savayi (a special poetic meter traditionally sung on specific days in the Sampradaya). Through his composition “Nitya Karita Shri Ram Smaran” (Constantly Remembering Lord Ram), he beautifully explains the supreme power of chanting the Divine Name (Namasmaran).

Stanza 1: Crossing the Ocean of Worldly Existence

Ram Namacha kadkadat, bhavasindhu so payvat |

Payari karun Vaikuntha, hoti pravishta pravishta || 1 ||

Meaning:

Where there is a continuous, joyful chanting of Lord Ram’s Name, the vast and stormy ocean of worldly worries (Bhavasagar) turns into a simple, shallow pathway. The devotee easily crosses this ocean, steps right over Vaikuntha (heaven), and merges directly into the Ultimate Reality (Parabrahma).

Spiritual Reflection:

In Kali Yuga, Namasmaran is the simplest and most direct path to God. If we take the Lord’s Name with complete faith (Shraddha) and devotion (Nishtha) upon the word of our Sadguru, even a sinner like Ratnakar can transform into Saint Valmiki.

Lord Ram is the visible, loving form (Sagun) of the Supreme Divine Consciousness. While fulfilling all our daily family and worldly duties (Prapancha), our inner mind must stay connected to Him. Heaven (Vaikuntha) gives temporary happiness, but true eternal liberation (Sayujya Mukti) comes only when we dissolve into the Supreme Spirit through the power of Ram Nam.

 Stanza 2: Protected by the Divine Seal

Ram Namankit nar, badu na shake bhavasagar |

Shri Ram mudrankit mi vanar, sukhe parpar pavalo || 2 ||

Meaning:

A person who takes refuge in Shri Ram’s Name can never drown in the miseries of the world. Swami says, “I am merely a humble monkey carrying the seal of Shri Ram’s Name, yet by His Grace, I have happily crossed over to the other shore.”

Spiritual Reflection:

When a devotee surrenders completely to the Sadguru, the Guru grants them the sacred Name as a shield. Just as an envelope bearing a postal stamp safely reaches its destination, a heart stamped with the divine seal of Shri Ram Nam is guaranteed to reach God. Remember how ordinary stones floated on the ocean during the building of Ram Setu simply because “Ram” was inscribed on them! Similarly, even a simple soul becomes free from worldly bondages when protected by Ram Nam.

Stanza 3: The Glory of Daily Remembrance

Nitya Shri Ram namasmaran, tethe virya dhairya kalyan |

Brahma pavati sanatan, he mahiman smaranache || 3 ||

Meaning:

One who daily chants and remembers Lord Ram gains spiritual strength, inner courage, and true well-being. Such a devotee attains the eternal, imperishable State of Brahma. This is the true greatness of Namasmaran.

Spiritual Reflection:

Lord Hanuman and Great saints like Samarth Ramdas Swami always glowed with divine light because they were constantly connected to God through Namasmaran. A true devotee becomes completely fearless and experiences heavenly bliss (Jivanmukti) while still alive in this world.

Stanza 4: The Danger of Forgetting the Lord

Jethe Shri Ram vismaran, tethe akirti apayash akalyan |

Ati nindyatve papi purna, adhapatan maha narki || 4 ||

Meaning:

Where Lord Ram is forgotten, ill-fame, failure, and spiritual downfall are sure to follow. Living in continuous forgetfulness of God leads a person into sinful actions, misery, and spiritual ruin.

Spiritual Reflection:

When we forget God, we become slaves to our ego, bodily attachment, anger, and greed. We trap ourselves in a small world of “me and mine,” leading to unhappiness and failure in life. Kalyan Swami gently warns us never to let our mind drift away from the Divine, as forgetfulness of God is the root cause of all suffering.

 Stanza 5: The Ultimate Promise

 Yalagi sakshepe aapan, samul sandave vismaran |

Nitya karita Shri Ram smaran, kirti kalyan nij vijayi || 5 ||

Meaning:

Therefore, with conscious effort and strong determination, completely throw away the habit of forgetting Lord Ram. One who holds on to Shri Ram Nam as dearly as life itself attains pure glory, complete spiritual welfare, and ultimate victory over life and death.

Yogiraj Shri Kalyan Swami reminds us that the same Divine Consciousness (Atmaram) resides within every heart and moves this universe. We should not forget Lord Ram even for a single moment.
